SUBJECT: IRAQI CHARGE NOTES UPCOMING VISIT BY TARIQ
AL-HASHEMI

REF: ABU DHABI 593

Classified by Charge d'Affaires Martin Quinn, reasons 1.4 (b)
and (d).

(C) Acting DCM discussed recent Iraq-related developments
with Iraqi Charge Mustafa K. Aboud in Abu Dhabi May 22, in
the context of preparing for the June 17-19 Friends of Iraq
Conference in Abu Dhabi. Aboud was aware of the conference
but had no specifics on Iraqi participation (he clearly
suffers from poor coordination with MFA Baghdad). Aboud
noted that Iraqi VP Tariq al-Hashemi would also visit Abu
Dhabi about June 3-5 for what Aboud hoped would be an upbeat
discussion with UAE officials. He was requesting a meeting
with President Khalifa, among other UAE notables. (Comment:
It would be very helpful if al-Hashemi emphasized similar
themes to those raised by S/I Satterfield on May 7 --
reported reftel -- to reinforce the need for deeper UAE
engagement in Iraq against the backdrop of the evolving
political environment. It sounded as though al-Hashemi's
trip would encompass a number of Gulf countries. End
comment.)

This website hosts an archive of all 251,287 US Embassy diplomatic cables that were released by WikiLeaks between November 28, 2010 and September 2, 2011.

While the cables are generally available at http://wikileaks.org/cablegate.html, we find it hard to search or even navigate the site to read the cables.

We have made all 251,287 cables available here at Dazzlepod with the hope to make it easier for readers to browse, search, share and discuss about the released cables.

The cables are periodically selected and posted to our Twitter page and Facebook page for readers to review them.
