SUBJECT: SUDAN AUGUST 9 SUMMIT IN DAKAR CANCELED

REF: LIBREVILLE 00519

Classified By: Ambassador Janice L. Jacobs for reasons 1.4 (b) and (d).

(C) Senegal's Ministry of Foreign Affairs has confirmed that
the planned Sudan summit (reftel and previous) has been
indefinitely postponed. Upon his return from Ndjamena,
President Abdoulaye Wade stressed that he had tried to
convince Sudanese President Omar El-Bashir that the latter
should agree to re-hatting the African Union Mission in Sudan
(AMIS) force. El-Bashir reportedly replied that he cannot
accept a UN peacekeeping operation because the United States
(and other members of the UN Security Council) has sanctions
in place against Sudan. Wade said he reiterated an offer
that he first made in Khartoum on August 4 to attempt to
mediate between the U.S. and Sudan.

This website hosts an archive of all 251,287 US Embassy diplomatic cables that were released by WikiLeaks between November 28, 2010 and September 2, 2011.

While the cables are generally available at http://wikileaks.org/cablegate.html, we find it hard to search or even navigate the site to read the cables.

We have made all 251,287 cables available here at Dazzlepod with the hope to make it easier for readers to browse, search, share and discuss about the released cables.

The cables are periodically selected and posted to our Twitter page and Facebook page for readers to review them.
